Economics Of Metal Buildings
What is the difference between Galvalume and Galvanized? The difference between Galvalume and galvanized steel is the protective coating around each steel sheet. Galvanized steel consists of zinc, while Galvalume’s coat consists of zinc and aluminum.
What are the different paint systems? Metroll offers SMP and polyester paint. For years, polyvinylidene fluoride, or PVDF, has been the leading paint/coating system in the architectural standing seam metal roofing industry. Times are changing, and PVDF is being phased out for environmental reasons. Now silicone-modified polyester (SMP), also referred to as silicone-protected or siliconized polyester, is the paint system used to coat metal sheet and coil products. SMP paint systems blend polyester for weather resistance and silicon for gloss retention into one formula. We also offer Polyester paint systems, which are most common on our 29 gauge metals used in carports.
Building Questions
How do I determine the roof pitch? The angle, or pitch, of a roof, is calculated by the number of inches it rises vertically for every 12 inches it extends horizontally. For example, a roof that rises 6 inches for every 12 inches of a horizontal run has a 6-in-12 pitch.
A roof pitch is expressed as “X-in-12 (inches)”
If you’re using a 2 ft (0.61 m) level, divide the distance between the level and the roof by 2 to get the true pitch.
The terms “pitch” and “slope” are sometimes used interchangeably when describing roofing projects.
Are metal roofs noisy? Metal roofing could be noisier than other types of roofing, especially during heavy rain or thunderstorm, but extra layers of solid sheathing or insulation installed beneath it will typically minimize the sound heard inside.
Can I paint metal panels, if so how? Yes, you can! As long as you prepare the surface of your roof correctly, choose the right primers, paints, and sealants, and apply your products correctly, painting your metal roof can extend its life and help make your home more energy efficient. Metroll offers metals that are pre-painted. There is a slight price difference between painted to non-painted metal panels.

How do I calculate how many panels I need for my roof? In general, you will need 3-5 sheets of metal roofing per 100 square feet of roof surface. Panel widths are standard sizes, the length will vary. You will need the dimensions of your roof to make these calculations.
Why should I spend more for a metal roof? When you are deciding what type of metal roofing to purchase and install, keep in mind that while there are options at a variety of price points, the cost of metal roofing is an investment. Metal roofs do last longer than asphalt shingle roofs. Today's metal roofs are expected to last up to 35 years. However, this will depend on the gauge, material quality, and paint color you choose. For example, copper will have a different lifespan than will other metals.
How long will a Metroll corrugated panel last? The answer for question 2
Whats the difference between exposed fastener panels and standing seam panels? The main difference is how the panels attach to the roof deck. Exposed fastener panels are attached to the deck using screws that go through the face of the metal. On the other hand, standing seam metal panels don't have exposed fasteners.
What panel lengths are available? This will depend on the gauge of the material and profile. For some profiles, we can produce lengths up to 50 feet.
